 How We Work
Like many Boy Scout troops, Troop 68 is a boy led troop.  Our adult leaders are here to guide.  This method ensures that our scouts get the most out of scouting.  The Troop usually has one campout per month plus summer camp.  Recent activities and campouts include: Ressica Falls Scout Camp, Tomahawk Areca, Lewis Morris County Park,
Camp Johnsonburg,
Pocono Environmental Education Center and rock climbing.

Troop Structure
Our troop is divided into patrols of six to eight scouts.  Each patrol has a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. The troop as a whole has a Senior Patrol Leader (SPL) and an Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL)  The SPL is the most senior boy charged with leading the troop.  He reports directly to the Scoutmaster.

The Scoutmaster is directly responsible to the Troop Committee for planning and implementing a good, viable program.  He is responsible for the physical, mental, and spiritual welfare and development of each Scout during troop functions.  Assistant Scoutmasters directly help the Scoutmaster implement plans for meetings and activities.  Assistant Scoutmasters are at least 18 years old and been officially registered and recognized as “adult leaders” by the BSA. Their role is mainly that of coach, teaching the boy leaders to run the troop.

Representatives of the scout parents form the troop committee.  The Committee is responsible for setting troop policy, ensuring that the objectives of Scouting are being realized through the troop program, and raising funds.

WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE OFFERED
IN BOY SCOUT TROOP 68?
There is a saying among Scout leaders that successful units "keep the outing in Scouting."  This means offering a quality program of outdoor activities that get the Scouts into the great outdoors.  Our troop 68 does just that.  We conduct monthly outdoor activities that coincide with our monthly themes.  From camping trips, rock climbing to overnight backpacking excursions, you will find Troop 68 enjoys the outdoors at least once a month.

The troop also plans an annual summer camp trip in July to a BSA camp somewhere in the northeastern United States.  From southeast Maryland to the mountains of New Hampshire, Troop 68 offers trips to parts of our country that Scouts may never get to visit.

Our older Scout program features high adventure activities during the summer.  Our high adventure trips have also taken us backpacking through Philmont, canoeing into Canada at Northern Tier, and sailing/snorkeling in the Keys at Florida Seabase.  For more information about the scouting program, please call Mr. Lewis at (908) 688-3165.

Troop Parents

The role of parents within Troop 68 is to be supportive of the Troop's efforts and to provide the atmosphere Scouts need to learn and excel. Parents should try to:

1. Read their Scout's handbook and understand the purpose and methods of Scouting. Parents should attend an informal Boy Scout Fast Start by the Troop Committee.

2. Actively follow their Scout's progress (or lack thereof) and offer encouragement and a push when needed.

3. Show support to both the individual Scout and the Troop by attending all Troop Courts of Honor.

4. Assist, as requested, in all Troop fund-raisers and other such activities. All such assistance lowers the cost of the program we offer to the Scouts and, therefore, lowers each family's cash outlay for their Scout(s).

5. Be aware of the Troop program and annual calendar.
