The Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church of Connecticut Farms in Union, New Jersey started Boy Scout Troop 68 in 1926. Since then, hundreds of boys have been in its program and more than sixty Scouts have earned the rank of Eagle. We currently have 30 boys’ registered and 10 adult leaders in the Troop. We currently have 65 Scouts that earn the rank of Eagle
Our Scout troop meets every Wednesday evening in the Connecticut Farms Church gym from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Scouts learn about leadership by helping and directing the newer scouts and the trained adults supervise the troop campouts, activities and meetings. The scouts also build character by learning to live by the scout oath and law. Our philosophy is and has been Scouts learn by doing with hands on experiences.
The troop has always had an active camping program. The boys raise funds for equipment and to go on special camping trips. The troop has gone on trips as far away as Florida, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Washington, D.C., to name a few. The troop also has a planned activity each month and weekly troop meetings are held in the gym of the Connecticut Farms Church.
Learning scouting skills is an important part of the program that is required in order for boys to advance in rank. The first rank is Scout, and then Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and the highest rank is Eagle Scout. Only a small percentage of boys that are in Boy Scouts ever achieve this rank. Troop 68 has an impressive list of boys who have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Our troop has had over sixty Eagle Scouts since our troop began.
. The troop has been fortunate enough to have had dedicated scoutmasters.
